Wild Flag

I went to see Wild Flag last night: Carrie Brownstein (of Sleater-Kinney), Mary Timony (of Helium, The Mary Timony Band), Janet Weiss (of Sleater-Kinney, Quasi) and Rebecca Cole (of The Minders). It was sort of exciting since no one at the show even knew what they sounded like. They never put out a record before they decided to tour so the atmosphere alone was pretty intense. All we knew was that four respected women in rock got together to form a potentially AMAZING band. Earlier in the week before their tour began, the band tweeted "We could be a polka band for all you know!" and they were totally right. I had an idea of what it might sound like, and I think I was pretty right on. It was exactly a clash of what to expect from Mary Timony (all psychadelic jam) and Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss (both in hard rockin' bands). Psychadelic-jam-rock with a lot of energy. I'm not completely sold on them just yet, but the fact that this was their first tour and their first time playing their songs for anyone gives them a break. Along with the fact that all four women in the band are completely amazing at what they do. The energy is definitely there. Plus, you could just tell they were having a great time together which can make any band awesome and fun to see.

This was my favorite song of the night. Unfortunately, I only got this short clip:

Here they are at the Doug Fir in Portland Oregon:
